Monday Morning

I have not been able to write much lately as we are getting the libary back up and running. We have over 15 boxes of books that are going to a used book store in State College (Websters Cafe and Books) Doing this is going to allow us to get the front porch cleaned up so we can start using it this winter.

I have to leave on a run at 7:30 AM, it is just to Lewistown to pick up their wedding licence. I should be home again by 10 AM. Then I am going to try and get some work done on the porch. I'll try and write more often.

Last week

I had a busy week so I did not get to write last week.

I left for Owen, WI. at 12:05 AM Monday, we arrived at 6:30 PM. Then it started to snow, we ended up with a 1/2 inch. The wedding started at 8 AM Tuesday so it was a long day ( I napped most of the day ) WE finally left there at about 11 PM Tuesday and I arrived home at about 8:15 PM Wednesday ( I had an extrat 2 hours dropping off)

Then on Thursday I left for Lancaster at about 4:30 AM. I arrived home about 8:30 PM.

Then on Friday I had local runs, I picked up a family from a bus that was returning from a wedding in the state of Indiana, and took them home. Then I took two family's shopping. Saturday at 7:30 AM I took a group to an auction and left all but one (she went to a grocery store close to the auction) and picked up 3 more and brought them back close to home and at 1:30 PM I left home and picked up the three, that I brought from the auction and took them back to the auction, picked up the group I left at the auction and one extra and brought them home.

Then I gased up and stopped at the grocery store and got some mashed potatoes and saulisbury steak for supper.

This week is booked solid also except Friday which is the day that I take Betty to WalMart for the monthly shopping spree.

Monday Morning 10/11

I am sorry to report that Betty Lee has come down with Bronchitis, The Doctor call in a prescription yesterday and I picked it up. She is finally asleep. She has had to use her nebularizer quite often the last two days. We fight this every fall and winter, She has such decreased use of her lungs that it gets very worrisome.

I have a run this morning I pick up just down the road at 5:55 AM.

Every one enjoy the holiday
Be safe out there and be Well

Thursday eveving 10/05/06

There is not much going on with me this week. I took my neighbor to a funeral Tuesday morning and then to upstate NY that night as they missed there ride because of the funeral. I was home again by 11 PM Wednesday.

My broken toe is much better and has almost quit hurting, if I step just right I do remember that it is broken.

I had to order a new Battery charger for the bus/RV, and I also need to get two new batteries for it. Then I can take Betty for a ride before it snows.

Be safe out there and be well.

10/2/06

Well it is 3:30 AM, I could not sleep anymore for some reason. I do not have much to report this morning, as I have not been able to get much done with this damn broken toe.

Betty is also up so we are a couple of old farts with sleep problems. I did have a winning Sunday, two $50 scratch off winners plus two $10 winners. So I'm up a $100.

I need to get a new battery charger as I was stupid last week and left the cover off the one I presently own is now shot. Rain will do that to electrical equipment. The one I should get is from harbor freight and is $114.95 plus shipping. I am going to check a couple of local parts stores this morning.

The Bus is giving me a rough time, it is a bear to start the next thing is going to be two new commercial batteries at about $150 each. And I just had to order two new nickel cadmium batteries for Betty Lee's handicapped scooter. so the bus will wait a little bit.

I will close for now.

Be safe out there and be well.

9/27/2006

Wednesday evening 9/27

It is 11:15 PM and I am wide awake as I was heading to upstate NY this evening and the person I was going with got sick and I have a broken toe on my right foot which makes driving interesting. I was refilling Betty's oxygen bottles on Monday and when I arrived at Dick's Home Care and opened the door of the van one of the small bottles rolled out and landed on the right foot breaking the little toe and bruising the toe next to it and about an inch above both on the arch. I did not know it was broken till today, I had a podiatrist appointment at the VA hospital in Altoona at 8:00 AM. When the Doctor saw it she said well go get it X ray ed, as I think there is a good possibility that it is broken and she was right.

Soak it in ice water and keep it wrapped in an Ace bandage an wear a special stiffed sole shoe that they gave me, to only use when I am not driving.

So I guess tomorrow I'll try and get the last 6 or 7 boxes of books from the front porch to the library, as the landlord finally has finished fixing the roof. Now he is working on a sewerage problem.

After the yard sale I put a bunch of stuff on the curb and most of it disappeared, I think the landlord took most of it as he works a flea market every Sunday, he mostly sells wallpaper borders but will put out about any thing he thinks he will get $0.50 or more for.

Well it is time to close.

Be safe out there and be well.

Bob

9/25/2006

Monday evening 9/25

I have not written much lately as Betty asked me to get a bunch of stuff ready for a yard sale, her quote " I do not have anything to do I'll just sit out there all day" Friday I had about 2 hours sleep when she said lets get set up. Then about 1 PM she said will you take over and went in and took a nap. I closed it up at 3 PM and went to bed. Oh we made a great $12.50 for the two days.

And this morning I was going to get her oxygen refilled and when I got to Dick's home care and opened the door on the van one of the smaller oxygen bottles rolled out and landed on my right foot. Now I have a very black little toe on that foot. If I take my shoe off I can hardly walk, it is bearable with shoe on.

I took a Lidoderm Patch (Lidocain 5%)and cut in in half and put a half on each kneecap for 12 hours. This was Saturday night and this is the first time in over three years that my knees have been pain free. It is Monday night and there is a twinge of pain for the first time. I will probably use another one Tuesday night.

Be safe out there and be well.

Sunday 9/17/06 10:30

I just got back from Fort Plains NY, Saturday evening I was up helping a friend build a new house before winter as they live in the snow belt. I did not do much except tow an enclosed trailer and took 3 carpenters and 2 women and 3 young children with me. It was on my neighbors daughter and her husbands new farm.

They have 7 children and are living in a 12 foot wide two bedroom trailer with a small attached bedroom making it 3 bedrooms total. I slept a a neighbors. It was 305 miles each way and the Ford hardly knew the trailer was back there. I was surprised at the ease with which that 98 V10 handled the load and it only dropped the gas milage by just less than 2 mpg and on the interstates I ran at 70 mph.

I did get some good rest while I was up there but the flies were terible, They have had so much rain everthing is water logged and they also have had to do a lot of grading and have put up new sheds and barns. The farm had not been farmed for about 10 years so there was a lot of stuff (rusted junk) that they buried. Plous the had to put in new sewarge lones and water lines so it has been a big project.

But they seem real happy and the women is always smiling and she is 7 1/2 or 8 months pregnant, So it is a push to get the new place to live done.

Be safe out there and be well.

Thursday PM 9/7

Well the IRS said they mailed my check on the 30 August. I thought that this day and age you could get a piece of US mail to almost any place in the world in 8 days. Not from the IRS though. They did say they had paid me $19.68 in interest That's for keeping it for almost 8 months. No I'm not bitter, right.

My foot is just pink right now and my stomach is back to normal. So I am doing something I should not do, eating everything in sight.

I bought a HumGUS bucks lottery ticket today ($5 ticket) There were 10 winners out of a possible 12 tries, each worth $10 for a cool $100. I have been cold in my bones as of late so I am going to take $50 and buy a heated mattress pad. I do not get much help from electric blankets, but I have been sleeping on a small heating pad for my shoulder, and it is really helping me. Not only my left shoulder but also my upper back and some on my right shoulder.

Betty i really up set as her case worker from the Office of Aging was here today and told her that she might lose her helpers as she will not turn off the oxygen while she smokes. I can not understand her as her favorite aunt burned her lungs very badly doing the same thing. But she says, she had a face mask on not just the nose tubes. We are also having trouble with the insurance that pays for her medicine and I can not even try and get it straightened out till tomorrow.

Well enough for now, I'll try and keep everyone posted a little better in the future, I have been a litle slack of late.

Be safe out there and be well.

Wednesday Morning 9/6

Well I survived the weekend from hell, it stared on Friday morning actually. As I have said before we have friends that have a tent at the Grange Fair in Centre Hall. I was taking my trailer to the fair to let them load all there stuff. There are like Betty and I, All the children have drown up and gotten married, they keep the tent for the grand children. I was using the 93 Dodge, as the Ford was still in the shop, and when I hit the top of the hill it coughed and quit running. I was able to coast it to the bottom of the hill to a spot that was safe and I was able to get completely off the road. It was 7/10 of a mile from the house, mostly up hill. The walk home almost did me in. Of course there was only one key to the rental car and it was on my belt.

When I got home I called the garage and a tow truck ($45). Called the people about not being able to get the trailer to them. Got in the rental car and went down and unhooked the trailer and transferred the stuff that could be stolen from the trailer to the van and in doing so fell and hit my left shoulder on the asphalt, hurt like hell. Then made my appointment 9:30 AM. Friday afternoon I picked up the Ford and returned the rental car. Then I took Betty and Russ to do the monthly shopping. Saturday was rainy and I spent most of the day in bed with a heating pad under the shoulder, it really did help.

Then Sunday morning Russ and I took the first rear seat out of the ford so we could load the carts. I was not sure how I was going to make it work, as the ramp is built to be used from the rear door of the 93 Dodge. I was able to make it work but in the trial and error process, the wooden floor fell on the arches of both feet. The left one was the only one that was really hurt; there is a 2 inch wide black and blue area that goes all the way across the foot from about half way up the toes to about half way up the arch. We got to church and unloaded but the pain started to make me sick to my stomach so we came home early. I am one of those people that is in constant pain due to the Post Polio, so I have a fairly high tolerance for pain. The pain got so bad by about 1:30 PM I took a perqoset (sp) which was a huge mistake. I had such an allergic reaction, upset stomach and a violent case of diarrhea. I took more Imodium than I should have, but finally got it stopped yesterday afternoon, 48 hours of hell.

I have a non fasting blood test on Thursday morning.

I must close for now and go get Betty some cigarettes.

Be safe out there and be well.

Wednesday evening 8/30

I got the ramp rail finished this morning. It Seems to work well, I'll know better after I use it for a while. The renal car is a pleasure to drive but I have trouble getting out of it as I do not have much push left in them. For such a small car the trunk is quite large and also has good leg room.

It has finally dried out and tomorrow is supposed to be great but then on Friday the rain returns. We Had 3.7 inches over the weekend and another 3/4 of an inch yesterday and last night. We could also get another 3 to 4 inches this weekend. We are starting to get warnings about high water and flooding already and the storm has not even gotten back over water.

Betty and I plan to go to the Grange Fair tomorrow I am going to plug in the carts as soon as I finish this. I will try and remember to take the digital camera with me. WE have friends that have a tent there and need help moving out on Friday and Saturday. I am going to talk to them and see if I can leave my trailer Friday morning so they can fill it and I can pick it up Saturday morning and tow it to there house and leave it till I have more time to pick it up and they will not have as much pressure to get it done in a hurry. They have the same problem I do,We are not as young as we were.

It will knock our sugar way out of kilter, To many bad things (real good tasting junk food) to eat and you just do this once a year like Thanksgiving. Yea I'll just eat a salad on Thanksgiving, Not.

Well I must close for now as Betty needs the heating pad as she has developed lower back pain. I think it is because she has started to walk to the bathroom and to her bed, and she has not used the muscle's to that in over two years. She has had to increase the use of Aleve to the point she gets afraid to take more.

Be safe out there and be well.

Tuesday night 8/29

I am going to let Jared's mother worry and do the set up on and with Jared's blog.

I am not home enough to really do the necessary supervision of him and it will be restricted to friends only with close monitoring. So everyone that is concerned about his safety will get a better feeling.

I picked up the third rail for the ramp yesterday and will try and do the final fitting in the morning. It pored off and on all day, every time I got to a time I could do it, down came the rain. So I have been puttering, right now on the table behind me, in my office/library, is the wooden silverware drawer from the kitchen. I have taken part of it apart and applied a heavy amount of Elmer's glue and clamped it and added extra support strips on the front and left side. Which are also glued and clamped. I'll know if all the work paid off in the morning.

Ill finish the ramp in the morning and get to the bank in State College before my 1:30 dentist appointment in Lamar.

Be safe out there and be well.

Helping Jared get his blogger account

Jared is sitting at my elbow as I try and write this, so if I do not make sense you will understand.

I am trying to show him how things work like the spell checker, he is rteal smart as far as comouters go.

Tuesday Morning 8/28

We had 3.7 inches of rain in the rain gauge yesterday morning an we had rain again last night it showed another .5 inch and is still raining and is suppose to for most of the day. I am of to pickup 5 prescriptions for Betty Lee. I also must go by the bank at the bottom of the hill and cash a small check I recieved in the mail yesterday. I must also check with a neighbor about a new rail for the van to streghtin the ramp. After I get it I will need to drill another hole to fasten it to the floor at the door.

Well I guess I had better finish getting dressed and even put on some shoes.

The rental car surprised me in that it had just under a 1/2 tank when I picked it up. By last evening it had hit the red mark. So I put in $20 and it almost filled it, I had filled the 93 Dodge on Sunday ($87) big difference.

Be safe out there and be well.

Monday Afternoon 8/27

I have a pretty, fire engine red Dodge Neon for a rental car. It is costing me a huge $0.76 a day. I am really trying to get the R/V started. My charger does not seem to get enough charge in those big batteries. I changed where I put the connections from the charger, I hope this helps. The batteries do not turn the engine over fast enough to get that big diesel started.

I have finally figured out how to work the spell checker on this post writer. I also changed the look of my blog let me know if you like this one better or should I go back to the first one. A couple of people yhought that it was hard to read because of the dark colors.

Monday Morning 8/28

Well it is 7 AM and have had a cheese omlete, made a pot of coffee, checked my sugar (149) and taken my medicine. I did sell the Dodge mini van for $50 last night. I was very lucky, taking out to Woodward. As I went through Millheim some one kept blinking his lights behind me, so I pulled over and he pulled up besude me and hooered "check the ladder on your roof" I had forgotten that I had put it on the roof when I cut the grass, it was not tied down. I put it inside and said a prayer of thanks that it had not fallen off.

I am off to the Ford Dealership in about 20 minutes. Betty just got up so I am going to quit this and feed her.

Be safe out there and be well.

I just upgraded to the new Beta version of Blogger. The say there is a new spell checker but I not figured out how to use it. I finally found it, it finds the missed spelled words but does not give you options on replacements. So I guess that I'll continue to write in MS word and cut and paste to the blog.

Sunday night 8/27

Well there is something going on today that I am having trouble figuring out. It started with the rain, then when we got to church I was suppose to run the program and the president of the board said she would do it so I could rest and take care of my legs. We had what we call “ Sit and Chat” it really is a small finger food pot luck.

Betty Lee has been writing on her blog for the last 30 minutes so I figured I should at least 10 minutes, but have no idea what I am going to write about. I had a call from Will, one of my mechanics, He wants to buy the Dodge Mini van with the blown transmission, I only will get $50 for It, but the junk yards do not want it, so that will help a little.

We are planning to go to the Grange Fair on Thursday, which is the last day of the fair and also senior’s get in free day. It is also the day of the parade. I really enjoy the fair, I think that this the first year that we will only get there for one day. Usually we get there for at least 2 days most times 3 days. as it is huge 975 large military style tents, 1300 RV’s a playground, 300 concessions, amusement rides, over 7000 exhibit items, livestock, horse shows, and draws crowds in excess of over 200,000. They have nationally known entertainers appearing in the grandstands nightly it runs from the 24th of August till the 31st of August, but they started allowing people to start moving stuff in on Sunday the 20th. We have friends that have a tent and most of the family, grand parent’s tent and all 4 generations stay there most of the time, especially the kids.

Then the following week is the Antique Machinery Show and Flea Market at the Penns Cave grounds, it runs from the 7th thru the 10th. I usually go to stock up on those hard to find items for the shop. Special screws, bolts, fasteners, tie downs etc. It is also great to watch the steam driven tractors and hit and miss engines and many other antique engines plus many different machines.

I am having trouble wit both shoulders I think it is a touch arthritis. My legs seem to be doing a little better. I have been taking an extra vitamin 4 evening a week and an iron pill daily. I seem to have a little more energy and stamina, which is a real good thing.

I am scanning the brochure for the grange and will add it to this Blog.

Saturday AM 8/26

Just letting you know that my vacation trip to upstate New York worked out well. We left at midnight Wednesday night, and started back Friday night at about 10:40 PM. I was in my own bed by 6:10 AM. I slept till 9:30 AM. Had breakfast ten started to get the Ford ready to go to the Ford Dealer to get the hit and run rear right quarter panel replaced on Monday at 8:15 AM. I’ll pickup a rental car then and use it for running around to save on gas. These big vans get between 12 and 15 mpg and that little car should get about 30 mpg or more. Well I am off for a nap I’ll have to finish this later. All of a sudden I just can not keep my eyes open.

I slept for an hour then the phone rang but no one was there so I am up for nothing. I guess I‘ll get ready to peel potatoes for supper, I am fixing roast pork, sauerkraut, and mashed Potatoes. Betty just asked if I was going to town as she is almost out of cigarettes. So I guess there is no rest for the wicked, I’ll be back later.

I’m back the potatoes are peeled and cooking, the pork and sauerkraut is just waiting on the potatoes. I am back from getting Betty Lee’s cigarettes. I also picked up my powerball ticket I also picked up a $5 scratch off called Humongus bucks, the first one I won $6 the second one I have won $5, I’ll turn it in when I get the Sunday papers. Wish me luck and prosperity.

Be safe out there and be well.

Saturday evening 8/22

One of my Amish neibhors called tonight and said I know you are not driving any more but could you please take my wife and I to the midwife’s as she is in labor. I said sure as I knew the next closes person was at least 10 miles down the road, and the already had a few kids. About half way there she said we are not going to make it. Her husband called the midwife to meet us on the road. The midwife met us about 2/3 of the way there. She transferred an assistant and towels and blankets to my van (which took less than a minute) and I was off again 80 to 85 miles per hour again. We arrived at the clinic at 7:20 and at 7:23 he came out and said it’s a boy, he was born about a minute and a half ago. Damn I miss the excitement of driving these people. By 9:30 I was home again and we had stopped at her fathers to show him and his wife the baby. The mother sat up and joked all the way home about how she had scared me and her husband. The clinic is about 36 miles from my house on winding hwy 192 near Miflinburg PA. It is a pretty drive the top speed limit is 55 but most of it is posted at 45 and some at 40, so 80 to 85 was pushing the limits for that 15 passenger van. They gave me a $50 for taking them.

As I wrote earlier the damn income tax check did not come in. My original filing was the last week of February. They said they had not received one form, and I know it was there, because if it was not they would apply my refund to an old tax bill of Betty’s from before we were married. So I always check for it. I resent the form and they sent it back saying it was not needed, then I was told to resend the whole income tax 1040 and all attachments again which I did the a few days later I received another letter saying to send the injured spouse form again attached to this letter Which I also did. Then I started checking on line again on the status of my return, they kept telling me even up to today that I would receive it by 22 August, they lied. So this is where it stands after 6 months, I filed a claim the advocate general today this will even fix it or make it worse and probably get me audited next year.

Well be safe out there and be well

Lousy Luck 8/22

Well it is 12:40 PM and the mail just came, and no income taxes check. Right now I am in the process of filing with the advocate general. I am on hold on my cell phone while he is making out the complaint, we will see if this helps or makes it worse. I feel like I am drowning in my own stuff.

After this is done I must go and see a couple of people that I owe and make all kinds of apologies to.

I think that I am just going to try and get away for a couple of days and vegetate. I have a friend that needs a ride to upstate NY Wednesday night I might take him if he pays all the expenses.
This would let me get my head together and figure out what to do. This is a big financial mess for me. And I am not the kind that usually can not figure out how to fix these things. I also do not usually get depressed about this stuff but I sure am this time.

just writing about it pisses me off more so I will quit for now.

Be safe out there and be well.

Tuesday Morning 8/22

I have to meet Rebbeca and taake her to the churches bank and help her transfer money from savings to checking. It will take both our signature's to transfer the money's.

I really would rather just lay around the house today, but that will not work. The church uses one of my banks so I will make a deposit at the same time. Well the income check did not come in yesterday so I do not know what is going on. I will go to the IRS site later today and try and find out what is going on. As I have said I filed at the last week of Feburary. That is about 6 months today.

Well I had better go get ready to get my act together. I need to shower and get dressed, so I'll write more later.

Be safe out there and be well.

Monday Morning 8/21

Monday morning, I had planed on sleeping till 7:30 AM, but got up at 7 AM. I had slept from 5:30 PM till 9:30 PM. I went back to bed about 2 AM and tossed and turned but feel rested. My sugar was 143 this morning. Not bad for hosting a 9 year olds birthday party.

I am off to the notary as I received the application for the change of names on the title and transfer of the handicapped plate from the 93 mini van to the 93 Maxi van. We also received the application for a permanent handicapped placard back as we forgot to sign it.

I hope the income tax check comes today; it will get me out of the financial hole I am in.

When we went to church yesterday I forgot to take her oxygen with us. It scared the shit out of me, but she said she would OK and was. This is a real good sign, I think the not much humidity was one of the keys to this. She has started to walk to the bath room and to the bed which I also think is helping her breathing. Her color is much better and her legs look great. I do not think they have looked this well since before she was sick. In fact probably about 2 years before she was sick.

My legs are still giving me fits, they get tired real easy and start to tremble and I get tired so quickly that it is very disconcerting. I have been trying to take it easy but the work alcoholic in me keeps kicking in, it is so hard for me to sit and do nothing. I ordered a full set of books given away by E-Bay to setup a store on E-bay. I am thinking about opening an E-bay store to sell Amish made products. This probably will be items from furniture to trailers and about everything in between. This will be on a commission basis I will just act as a middle man and not keep any inventory, and I will deliver certain things for a fee. I have not figured out exactly how this is going to work, it is a work in progress.

I must close and get to my appointment with the notary.

Be safe out there and be well.

Sunday night 8/20

Well we survived Jared’s birthday party; he got a lot of loot a new intendo game player from his Dad and his brother and father. He also got a big rubber duck, a movie on DVD, a remote control 4 wheel drive truck, two board games and some other things which I have forgotten

The dinner went well roast beef, boiled new potatoes, cauliflower, carrots, zucchini and tomatoes, cantaloupes cubes, gravy. We still have chocolate cake to go. There were about 15 adults and his younger two cousins in the party.

I have plenty of boiled potatoes left over for home fries, and roast beef for sandwiches, there was also zucchini and tomatoes, and cauliflower. I had picked up 3 cantaloupes at an auction yesterday for $0.50 each and we all ate on one and there is some still left.

Well the cake was destroyed and I only had 2 pieces. Which of course Betty Lee hollered at me for, so what is new.

I went to an Amish benefit auction for a sick child yesterday and when I left I backed into an older Dodge Caravan. I took her right side rear tail light out. I filed a claim with Nation Wide Insurance last evening, what a pain in the butt, but I am glad for the coverage.

I could not send this earlier when I wrote the part above this. I do not know why I could not connect to the blogspot server.

I then had to take a nap as I must leave here in about 15 minutes (10:15 PM) I must be at a friends place at 11 PM. His car broke down and he must be to work at midnight. I am going to heat a big cup of coffee and get ready.

Be safe out there and be well.

Saturday AM 8/19

I have not been checking the content of my blog messages, so some things do not read the best or flow correctly. I sometimes think that my mind works that way jumping from I thing to another in no special order and then back to the first thing and then to third thing and finally back to the second.

This not being able to work is a bummer the bills are not getting paid and I am going crazy, not being busy. I always have been a work alcoholic so this is very hard.

I turned in the accident on the Ford, for those who do not know, I was hit and run in the North Atherton WalMart. I have Nation Wide Insurance, I took it to the Ford dealer they sent me to. The bill is for $1177.82.The work will be done, starting on 28 August 2006 I will also be getting a small rental car through insurance, it is going to cost me $0.78 a day. The big problem is my deductible is $500. So I hope my income tax finally comes in. The IRS web site say’s I should have it by the 22 of August.

For something to do today I am taking a neighbor to a hospital benefit auction this morning. They are going in early to help set up. It is to help with the medical bills for a child that has cancer and a head injury that left him with partial paralyze and also diminished mental capacity. This will help me from being so board today.

We are celebrating Jared 9th Birthday on Sunday afternoon. It seems like just yesterday that he was fighting to breath at the Hershey Medical Center, not 9 years ago.
I must close for now and eat as my sugar was 81when I just tested it. And I can smell the fresh coffee.

Be careful out there and be well.

Friday 8/18

It is Friday about 7:50 AM and I have had breakfast and taken my medicine, my sugar was 151 not to bad but could be better. I am off to the Ford dealer to get the estimate for the repairs on the rear passenger side on the 98 Ford.

I am a little tired so I do not know if the upping the multi vitamins and one iron capsule a day is cutting it. I slept 9 hours last night and only got up to go to the bath room twice so I should not be tired. It is the heavy eye lid type of tired, and my legs are a little shaky.

I might have over done it yesterday as I felt so good and well. I had not felt that well in over two weeks.

I am going to try and finish painting the middle section on the right side of the bus/RV, this really makes it look newer and sharper.

Be safe out there and be well

Thursday evening 8/17

Well I have been able to get most of the stuff I planed on doing today. I am tired but not the exhausted kind. I have been going around the yard picking up junk and just trying to straighten up a bit.

I filed an accident claim with Nation Wide Insurance and have to take the Ford to State College Ford at 9 AM tomorrow; I was hit and run in the parking lot at WalMart last week. It is quite a bit of damage to the passenger side rear panel. I have full coverage on the Ford even rental coverage. We will see how the Blue ribbon service from Nation Wide works. State College Ford is authorized to do the estimate and fix it.

I hope this doubling of the multivitamins and taking the iron capsules will do the trick. Wish me luck.

I can not think of another thing to say except something happened to Betty’s Blog neither one of us could find it, it is like it was deleted so I had to built her a new one, I do not know if she is going to use it, she is really ticked off. The new address is http://betty-lee.blogspot.com/

Be safe out there and be well

Thursday AM 8/17

I feel a lot better this morning; I seemed that I rested real well last night. When I finished my shower this morning I was not as tired as I was yesterday. I hope this is a good sign, let’s hope so.

I am going to try and cut the front lawn this morning, so that will be a good test on how today is going to be. I have about 6 small projects that I would like to get done today. One is just to straight up the mess I have made in the bus, by trying to upgrade the interior, and another on is One of the speakers for the new stero system is not as secure as it needs to be, and there is always more blue paint to spray on the bottom half of the bus. I also need to pickup the extra support rail for the ramp that I use for vans. My weather vane also lost its South arm and needs to be welded back on.

I have started the lawn mowing and am now waiting on Jared to ride in the trailer; he is getting permission from his mother.

Well the front lawn is cut I just need to run the weed whacker for a very short time. Jared has helped me load the trailer to take a bunch of things up to the shed.

Now the damn tractor will not start, it is acting like there is a flat spot on the starter, so I am going to get the charger and see if a little more juice will make the current jump the flat spot.

Be safe out there and be well

Wednesday evening the 16th

I finally am able to post again I do not know what exactly which setting was off, I have changed so many I do not know which one or combination fixed it on this computer. But I am back, so everyone has to put up with me again.

I have had a rough day, I do not know what is going on. I think the post polio is kicking up again. I have been so tired today, any time I did something I almost had to lay down. I did take a 2 hour nap and am still exhausted.

I have doubled my vitamin intake today, sometimes that helps. I’ll keep everyone posted on how
this works out.

I am going to try and eat a little something and lay down

Be safe out there and be well

My life as I remember it # 5

When I arrived in State College in the middle of April 1979, I stayed with my mother who lived on Crickelwood Dr. in Toffee trees Area.

I applied for a breakfast cook’s job at the Nittany Lion Inn (The Penn State's top of the line Inn) and lost the bid. So I took a night cook’s job at the AutoPort restaurant. To start on a Tuesday, on Monday the Nittany Lion Inn called and told me the new guy they had hired did not show up for work, so would I start at 5:30 AM Tuesday. I said I would as it was a union job with all the medical benefits and retirement. I also went to work at the AutoPort at 4 PM. I worked 6 AM to 2:30 PM at the Nittany Lion Inn and 4 PM to 11 PM at the AutoPort. I was off at the Inn on Friday and Saturday and off at the AutoPort on Tuesday and Wednesday, which worked out well for me. I have always been a work alcoholic. This schedule made it so I never worked the two jobs on the same day more than two days in a row. I kept this schedule for 2 ½ years.

The AutoPort is where I met Betty Lee, she was the only waitress in the coffee shop in the evening. There were about 10 waitress in the main dinning room. We both had a friend working the front desk of the motel of the AutoPort. He invited both of us to go to a club with him and this started Betty Lee and I getting together. We started to live together on the 10th of October 1979. I had bought a one bedroom trailer in Hill Top Trailer Park. Where we started our life together.

Be safe out there and be well.

My life as I remember it # 4

I think in the last post I told you about getting the contract to feed the truck drivers for another company. We did this for a year and then all of a sudden I could not get my Visa renewed. As in most foreign countries to open a business you must have a local partner and as in most third world countries politics and all government agencies run on bribes. The Farolito had about $60,000 in antiques in it, Which I knew I could not remove from Argentina, it does not alow the export of antiques. and was making over $6,000 a month profit so they wanted it all. They said that they would send me a $1,000 a month for 60 months. I received one payment.

And had to sneak out the back door. As I did not find out till the last day of my Visa that it was not going to get it renewed, and the banks were closed and I wanted the last weeks recipts $3,200 I waited till morning and bribed my way into Paraguay and the took a licking on getting the US dollars converted to buy a ticket. In Argentina to buy an international ticket it had to be paid for in US dollars but Paraguay it was with the local currency. A $700 ticket cost me $1,200 at the offical exchange rate. So when I arrived in New Orleans I had $150 left of the $3,200. And when I arrived in State College PA I had $25 left.

I will try and write more tomorrow. Please excuse the spelling errors as I usually writ this in Microsoft word and cut and paste it into the blog after I spell and grammer check it and with all the problems with logging into this blog Iwas afraid to try and do this.

Saturday night on my computer

I got into my blog by changing my password I do not know if I can get in the regular way yet.

I think this is where I was when I had to quit because of the spilled water. I sure hope that the keyboard stays working.

So I took that $1000 and opened another restaurant called "la Farolito" The little lantern. I furnished it with items that I had picked up at abandoned whaling stations and other places in the Antarctica. I built the new exhaust hood put in new sink stove work tables bought new, pots, pans, dishes, table cloths, etc. Business started real slow, as always, for a new business then I got lucky another American in the area contacted me. He asked if I could feed all his drivers when they were in town. His transportation company hauled drilling supplies to all the oil rigs and pumping stations in Tera Del Fuego. We worked out what he wanted served and I set what I thought was a fair price, he accepted and it worked out to be worth about $2500 US a week.

I am going to close for now and get some sleep.

Be safe out there and be well.

My life as I remember it # 2

My folks Lived at the Auto Port Motel and restaurant as the ranch house on Pugh St. was being finished. I finally got my first 3 week leave, after graduating from munitions school at Lowey # 2 AFB in Denver CO, over the 1953 Thanksgiving holidays. I had brought a girl friend with me, she was a RN and she asked me after we left when my mother was expecting the baby. My younger brother Kenny was born the following spring.

I had to return to Ardmore AFB in Ardmore OK, if you went out the back gate you were in Gene Autry OK. I stayed there from mid December 1953 till March or April 1994. I then went to Greenville SC. and was there till September 1994 I was then sent to Sandia Army base in Albuquerque NM Where I studied nuclear weapons. I was there till June 1995 I took two separate courses. From there I went to the 8th ADS at Lakenheath England. I was there for 18 months. I then was sent to Brisenorten AFB out side of Reading England. I came back to the States in November 1958, I went to Donaldson AFB in Columbus OH Were I was discharged in February 1959. I lived in the Columbus area for a year doing odd jobs. I returned to the North Reading Area for about 2 ½ years. In late December 1959 I went to State College to be with Dad as he had a growth removed from his face (we were afraid it was cancer). On the way back The guy I was riding with panicked on a small patch of ice and we hit 2 tree’s in the middle of a field. I took 130 stitches in the side of my head and a steel screw in my right leg, I was on crutches for 91/2 months and then in a walking cast for 6 more weeks. There went my hopes for reenlisting in the Air force. I then returned to the State College area where I worked as a short order cook at the Electric Diner. From there I went to Riverside CA where I managed a service station (gas station) for a professional billiard player. He used the station as a tax write off but he forgot to tell me this and I really turned the station around and it really started to make money for him
I got bored and moved on. I then went to New Orleans where I finally went to work on the oil rigs as a cook, a good life two weeks at work then a week off. This job helped me get my seaman’s papers I then joined the National Maritime Union and started Sailing as a 2nd cook on freighters and tankers. Then I moved up to Chief Cook and Steward and continued to sail on the big ships. In 1970 shipping tight, it got real hard to find a ship. The US had laid up all the passenger ships, this happened because the US government quit subsidizing them as they said the no longer need them to move vast numbers of troops. This dumped a large number of cooks Stewards into the freighter tanker pool with a lot of seniority so I had to go looking other work. I landed a year contract on a ship called the R/V Hero. It was owned by the National Science Foundation. The crew was employed by the Maritime Research Company - out of Miami FL. It worked the Southern half of South America and the Antarctic Peninsular. The home Port was listed as Palmer Station Antarctica. I ended up spending 7 years on the ship and worked for 3 different company’s before I left. I lived in Punte Arenas Chile for 3 years, I still sort of, own a house there When I left I told the girl that I lived with it was hers but did not have time to get the paperwork done. We had to leave due to the political situation, this was when Alende was President of Chile.

We moved the South American home base, supply base to Ushuaia Argentina I ended up opening a barbeque restaurant there. I was open one season as it was a tourist town and it had a 4 month season and I did not get open till late in the season and did not have enough capital to hold over till the next season. I was offered a job with the ship chandler company that I Use to buy supplies from for the R/V Hero The had started a catering company and gotten the contract to feed the international crews that were going to pull the pipe line under the straights of Magellan. They needed a person that could teach their cooks how to fix American style breakfasts and special things like American biscuits and pancakes. And other things that they needed. They only paid me $1,000 a month but they also paid the rent on the house in Rio Grande. They also paid all the utilities and even the cleaning woman. I also had an unlimited expense account with a $2500 base I also had a full time Argentine driver and two dual wheel Ford 1 ton pickups. One of the major parts of my job was to entertain the big wigs of the oil company and sub contractors. We started with these two camps and when I left we had 10 camps and 4 drivers and 5 pickups. We bought about $20,000 worth of food a week. So I never had to buy cigs, wine, booze ect. So the $1000 was clear.

I JUST spilled water on the keyboard and must close.

My life as I remember it # 1

I was born in Wakefield MA. on July 8, 1935. My parents told me I was a very sick baby. They had to carry me around on a pillow, as I could not stand to be touched very much due to Polio. Our family country doctor had no knowledge of this sickness, so I was very lucky that it was a mild case of Polio. The Polio left my left leg ¾ of an inch short and my left arm ½ an inch short so as I grew up and started to walk then run, I fell down a lot. This left my knee caps with almost a solid scar on them. I did play football in junior high school. (Tackle). In October of 1952 4 of us young high school boys (Billy, Andy, Donald, and I) decided to enlist in the military (remember this was during the Korean war) Billy went into the Marines and I was accepted into the Air Force. Andy had a heart murmur and Donald had a punctured inner ear drum. When we took the aptitude tests my mechanical skills were listed as very high. They gave me a waiver on my short leg and put me in the ammunition field. So I ended up blowing up things. I was sworn in on the 18th of March 1953.

My family and I, my mother, father, brother, and 2 sisters lived in North Reading MA. Till I went into the USA Air Force in March of 1953. My father worked at M.I.T. in Harvard Square at the time. He was in the mineral industry’s department of M.I.T. He was in charge of all the research laboratories in the department. The Assistant Professor of the mineral industry’s department at MIT took the department head job at Penn State in June of 1953. After he toured his department and got settled in he called dad and offered him the same job he had a MIT at PSU for about $25 a week, a $100 a month in 1953 was a lot of money, so they moved to State College PA. in September of 1953. The professor said the laboratories were no way near being up to date for a top of the line University.

Saturday Afternoon

Well I have redone the ramp for the Dodge to make it easier to put up and take down.
The plywood floor was a large hinged piece and a smaller separate piece. I added a second set of hinges so I now have one solid piece when it is unfolded. My neighbor is cutting a third rail (angle iron) to be added to the center as the plywood sags a little now and if I have to walk up it, it does not feel the safest.

I have been slowly cleaning up the shed, which is something that really needs to be finished as it has been about 6 months or more since it was done last time. It was getting to the point that you could not walk down the center isle.

I must get to the store for Betty so I must close for now

Be safe out there and be well.

It makes me sad just to write this, I have beendoing the bare minumim for the last 6 months and lied about trips to make everyone think that I was still doing OK.

Wednesday afternoon

I am going to try and add the scans of the Amish Reproduction store brochure to this blog.

8/08/2006

Tuesday night

I just got back from Lancaster, I am amazed at how the Amish do certain things. Today was a good example, I picked up a women and her teenage daughter, close to home, and cases of canning jars. We drove to Lancaster and picked up a married daughter, then went to the woman’s sister’s house. Where I was told they had a great set up to can applesauce. in half a day they had put up 200 (that’s right two hundred) quarts of applesauce. They still had to hot water bath them when they got home. But to peel, core, and cut enough apples for 200 quarts, and never mind cooking it getting it in the jars, and sealed.

The rest of the day was spent visiting and shopping, and going to a doctor’s for a checkup.

So I learned something new today.

The sister and her husband also have a reproduction store, wooden buckets, wooden butter churns, wooden cheese boxes of all sizes, wooden trash bins, plant stands, candle stands, shelves, corner cupboards. I’ll try and scan their brochure tomorrow and put it in tomorrows blog.

off to bed

Be safe and be well.

Monday evening

Well I survived the Sunday midnight run, I got home at 8:15 AM. They added 4 people from here going to Lancaster Sunday about noon so I actually left home at 10:15 PM.

I am going in to Lancaster again in the morning (only 2 people so far) a 4 AM pick up but it is close to home, 3 miles. It is a round trip thing. I really do not know what time I'll be home.

The Ford has been running great and so has the Dodge. I am going to wait and gas up for the trio in the morning as I did lay down for about an hour and a half I am getting tiered about now so this might not start to make sense. So I had better close before I make a complete fool of myself.

Be carful and be well.

Saturday night

Well everything Thursday started well Thre alignment on the ford went well. Everthing was in the good range they did not have to make any adjustments,so it only cost $25.30 and I was home by 9 AM. But then it went down hill Bettys S/S check did not come in. So going to the store was put on hold (Betty and I had a big argument)
We ended up going to the store in the evening. And the brakes on the Ford were not finished Thursday night as the wrong pads were delivered, my fault. Wil, Bless him got the right pads and had them on by 5 PM after he worked till 4:15 PM.

I made my 5:30 PM run and my double run today and have to leave for Lancaster at Midnight sunday night. I got the rent paid, and the repairs paid for now have the phones to get paid and the insurance on the vans paid and I can start to breath a little eaiser.

Well I'm off to bed as I have the alarm set to go off at 4 AM so I'll be tired at 4 PM when I need to go back to bed so I can get up at 11 PM for the midnught run.

Take care out there and be well

Thursday AM

I am getting ready to head to TireTown to get the alignment on the Ford. Then I'll take Betty Shopping and tonight I have to get front brakes done tonight. Margie is going to take Betty, with her cart, to the Spring Mills parade this evening.

I have runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Everyone be well and try and stay cool.

Tuesday Morning

I did get the tires on yesterday and also got the portable towing lights fixed; I use them on the box on the rear cargo hauler, as the box partly hides the tail lights.

I did end up with one small run yesterday and have a small run tonight. The alignment is scheduled for Thursday when I take Betty Lee shopping.

I did get the front yard cut yesterday, late in the evening. It is to hot to do much yard work. I’ll try and cut a little more some time today. I had dead battery’s on about everything I touched yesterday. The Bus, the Dodge, I left the 12 volt cooler plugged in over night, and the garden tractor. The only one with no problem was the Ford.

Margie has a 93 Chrysler town and country and the headlights have gotten real yellow, I ordered new lenses. They will be in next week. Then when I finally get my income check I am going to take it to Clark Motors and get the ABS brakes done.

Enough for now.

Love and be well

Monday Morning

It is hot already this morning and I am off to get the new tires on the Ford.
Both Betty Lee and my Sugar was great this morning, hers was 97, mine was 100, so we splurged and had blueberry pancakes for breakfast, light on the syrup. I have.
I did not get any grass cut yesterday, but we had some great steaks and grilled potatoes for supper.

I’m off

Love and be well

Sunday After Church

Sorry I have not posted for a couple of days but life got in the way. I had a 17.5 hour day yesterday so when I got home at 9:30 PM I did not feel like doing any thing but take my meds, eat a little, and go to bed. I did get a good 9 hours sleep last night, I do feel well rested today.

I have an appointment to get two new tires put on the Ford in the morning. I also have an appointment with Betty to take her shopping on Thursday the 3 rd, her monthly thing. At the same time TireTown will be doing an alignment on the Ford.

There is a possibility that I am going to Lancaster on Tuesday. I have scheduled runs for Friday evening and Saturday a double run, take them over and leave them in the morning and go back and get them in the afternoon.

Betty Lee and I are doing well and I am heading out to make a couple of deposits and go to Wise's for milk, bread, and of course cigs for Betty Lee. When I get back I am going to start cutting the lawn. I am going to do it in small stages as it is so hot.

Love and be well

Our Military problems

I am a Korean vet and even back then there was not even the thought of holding people past their rotation date. But of course then we had enough regular troops that we were not using the national gaurd at these levels. There were special groups brought up for short periods of time 3-4 months at most.

Unlike most third world countries that have a mandentory draft, some even have almost no exceptions. Handicapped people work in supply offices, comunications as dispatchers and other office or reception type jobs.

My personal oppinion is that we have pecome the laughing stock of the world as we tink we can keep the peace with a part time Military.

Bob

7/27/2006

Thursday AM

Well I did something that I have not done lately, I bought a couple of scratch off lottery tickets, $5 each. One was a $50 winner, so I reinvested $10 and won another $21. I will cash it in later this AM and reinvest another $10. Wish me luck.

I do not have any runs scheduled for today, so I will continue my search for adjustable cup holders for the Ford. They are the type that have a pull out lock with a step up step down size teeth. The one I use all the time will not lock in place any more, the teeth have worn out or the locking control has broken.. You use to be able to find them in doubles, singles and other styles. So Far I have looked in two auto parts stores, two WalMarts. Today I’ll check two dollar stores, Advanced Auto parts, Ollie’s and any place else I can think of.

My sugar was great this morning, 126, so eating light at lunch and a real good meal for supper and a great breakfast is the trick. Notice I said nothing about snacks. I had a potato, bell pepper, ham, and cheese omelet for breakfast this morning, no toast and black coffee.

You all be good out there and be well.

Have a great day

Wednesday evening.

I just finished updating Betty lee’s autobiography on our web page. Her page is My Life it is @bobthepirate.net. On the home page, index.

0n the other side the coin, business has picked up a little. I had a single run on Monday (the first run on Monday in a month) two runs on Tuesday and a group of ladies today (took them to a gathering at 7:45 AM and then picked them up again at 2:30 PM. Last week I did not have any thing till Wednesday.

We had gotten some farmers Market chits from the Office of Ageing ($40) Betty spent half of that at the market in Boalsburg.

Every one be well out there.

Bless you
Bob

PS I just got a nice compliment from Betty, she said it was the best supper she has had in a while. Maybe it wasn’t, saying I haven’t been cooking very well lately.

Wednesday Noon

I just finished posting Betty Lee’s autobiography to our web site @ bobthepirate.net The page is called My Life.

I included a couple of pictures of my sweetie.

It is still slow but business has picked up a little bit. I had a couple of trips yesterday, and have had one group of ladies today, that I must pick up again at 2:30 PM .

I had to order two tires for the ford today I’ll have them put on Monday if I do not get busy, if I do it will be Tuesday before I can put them on, then I need alignment.

Must close and eat lunch.

A Guy's point of view

At last - a guy has taken the time to write this all down. Finally , the
guys' side of
the story. We always hear "the rules" from the female side. Now here are
the rules from
the male side. These are =our= rules!

Please note ... these are all numbered "1" on purpose!

1. Men are not mind readers.

1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it
down. We need
it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it
down.

1. Sunday sports. It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides.
Let it be.

1. Shopping is not a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that
way.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not
work! Strong
hints do not work! Obvious hints do not work! Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

1. Come to us with a problem only If you want help solving it. That's what
we do.
Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem. See a doctor.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact,
all comments
become null and void after 7 Days.

1. If you won't dress like the Victoria's Secret girls, don't expect us to
act like soap
opera guys.

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways
makes you sad or
angry, we meant the other one.

1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done.
Not both. If
you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, please say whatever you have to say during
commercials.

1. Christopher Columbus did not need directions and neither do we.

1. All men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach,
for example, is
a fruit, not a color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve
is.

1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," we will act like
nothing's wrong. We
know you're lying, but it's just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, expect an answer you
don't want to
hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine ...
really.

1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to
discuss such topics
as baseball, the shotgun formation, or golf.

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

1. I am in shape. Round IS a shape!

1. Thank you for reading this. Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch
tonight; but
did you know men really don't mind that? It's like camping.

Monday Afternoon

I headed to WalMart and decided to stop at Lowes first. I started to pull into the parking lot and noticed that the store was closed, They had moved about a mile away to this new huge store, it is about twice as large. It was fun just looking around, all I needed was a toggle switch and a control nob for the oven. Got the toggle switch, but must call in to get the nob. All in all a lazy day.

Monday Morning

Well I talked to the mechanic this morning and he said he will try and get to it today, he is not sure. On the way to the garage the brake lights, turn signals started to work. I am going to WalMart later today; we need a couple of things before the first of the month. I'll pick up the toggle switch at the same time.

I did pick up a run for Wednesday morning and have a long run to Lancaster on Saturday, starting at 4:30 AM.

When I was at the VA on Wednesday of last week, I was able to finally convince the Podiatrist that I need my feet done every two months, not every three. The toe nails were broken real bad.

I had a pleasant surprise this morning when I checked my sugar, 84. Not the normal 130 - 180. I guess I'll have to start really cooking again. I had made pan fried breaded chicken breast, new potatoes, cauliflower, and cabbage. If I do say so myself, it came out pretty well.

Every one have a great day.

It has finally cooled off here in Central PA. I had to take the 93 Dodge to the mechanic this evening. I lost the headlights again. So I disconnected the fog lights from the head light circuit. I ran the wires and an inline fuse to make a separate circuit with a toggle switch . I am also going to have him splice in the trailer hook up pigtail, as the van was pre wired for towing, but you can no longer buy the adapter to connect to the trailer.

I also worked on the handicapped ramp that we use to haul the two handicapped scooters, I can walk short distances but my wife is on oxygen 24/7. It just needed some new safety pin holes and new bungee strap tie down brackets for storage.
